In this episode of the Freedom Family Chiropractic podcast, Dr. David Ridos breaks down why spinal alignment is a critical — and often overlooked — component of overall wellness. He explains how the spine does far more than support your back, influencing how your entire body functions from the inside out. Listeners will learn how misalignments can quietly affect energy, organ function, and quality of life in ways most people never connect to their spine. Whether you’re dealing with pain or simply want to optimize your health, this episode offers a fresh perspective on what true wellness looks like. Tune in for an eye-opening conversation that goes well beyond chiropractic care and into the heart of whole-body health.
Hey there, and welcome back. I’m doctor David Ridos, and you’re listening to the Freedom Family Chiropractic podcast, coming to you from right here in Weston, Florida. Today we’re talking about something that I think is one of the most overlooked pieces of the health puzzle — and that’s spinal alignment. Now, I know that might sound like a very chiropractic thing to say… but stick with me here, because this goes way beyond just back pain. This really is about how well your entire body functions every single day.
So let’s start with the basics. Your spine is not just a stack of bones. It’s the central highway of your nervous system. Running through and alongside your spine is the spinal cord and all the nerves that branch out from it — nerves that control your organs, your muscles, your immune response, your digestion, even your sleep. When your spine is properly aligned, those signals travel freely. When it’s not — when joints are stuck, or shifted, or under stress — that communication can get interrupted. And that’s when things start to go sideways, sometimes in ways people don’t even connect back to their spine.
Here’s what I hear a lot in my office. Someone comes in for neck pain, and after a few weeks of care, they tell me their headaches went away. Or someone comes in for low back pain, and they mention they’re sleeping better than they have in years. Now, I’m not saying chiropractic cures everything — that’s not what this is about. But when you restore proper movement and alignment to the spine, you remove interference from the nervous system. And the body does what it’s designed to do — it heals, it regulates, it functions better.
Now, here’s the thing most people don’t realize. Spinal misalignment — what we call a subluxation — doesn’t always hurt. In fact, a lot of people walk around with significant alignment issues and feel totally fine… until they don’t. Poor posture, sitting at a desk all day, looking down at your phone, old injuries, even stress — all of these things build up over time. The spine adapts, and compensates, and adapts some more. And eventually the body runs out of room to compensate. That’s usually when the pain shows up. But the problem started long before that.
So what can you do starting today? A few simple things. First, pay attention to your posture. When you’re sitting, are your shoulders rounded forward? Is your head poking out in front of your body? Just becoming aware of that is step one. Second, get up and move. If you’re sitting for long stretches — set a timer, get up every thirty to forty-five minutes, walk around, do a few gentle neck rolls. Third, be mindful of how you’re carrying your body when you’re on your phone. Try to bring the phone up to eye level rather than dropping your head down. These small habits make a real difference over time.
And here’s when I’d really encourage you to come in and get checked. If you’ve been dealing with recurring headaches, tension in your neck and shoulders, low back stiffness in the mornings, or just a general feeling that something is off — don’t wait for it to get worse. A spinal evaluation can tell us a lot about what’s happening and what kind of support your body needs. We’re not here to put you on a plan you don’t need. We’re here to give you honest answers.
